Fertile Earth Launches Free “Zero Waste 101” Workshop Series as South Florida Rethinks Waste Management

Monthly educational series will help businesses, institutions, and community members better understand composting, food recovery, and the future of organics management.

HOMESTEAD, FL — October 8, 2026 — As Miami-Dade County moves forward with planning for its long-term waste-management future, Fertile Earth is launching Zero Waste 101, a free monthly virtual workshop series designed to make the principles and practices of zero waste more accessible to South Florida businesses, institutions, and residents.

The series comes as Miami-Dade County examines new approaches to managing waste through its Zero Waste Master Plan, creating opportunities for broader public discussion about food recovery, composting, and the management of organic materials.

Fertile Earth, a South Florida organics recovery company operating since 2008, will draw on its experience collecting, recovering, and processing organic materials to introduce participants to practical approaches to waste reduction.

The workshops will explore the different pathways available for recovering organic materials, including preventing food waste, feeding people and animals, and composting materials that cannot be recovered for higher uses.

The workshops are intended for a broad audience, including business owners, facilities managers, sustainability professionals, educators, community organizations, and residents interested in understanding how organic materials can be managed more effectively.

Topics will include the fundamentals of composting, food recovery, organics processing, common misconceptions about compostable materials, and the practical challenges of introducing organics recovery programs.

First Two Workshops Scheduled

The inaugural sessions will take place:

Both sessions will be conducted virtually via Google Meet.

Participation is free, but advance registration is required. Each workshop is limited to 20 participants to encourage questions and discussion.
